Nutrient deficiencies can be the root cause of many issues including chronic stress, hormonal imbalances and lack of energy. Gretchen Lidicker knows all about this, as a writer, scientist, researcher and former health editor of MindBodyGreen.

I have invited Gretchen back onto the show today to talk about the one nutrient that truly is a girl’s best friend, and that is magnesium. Magnesium can do wonders for your energy, mood and physical symptoms, and through natural foods and supplements, it is possible to get your magnesium levels working for you again.

Quotes

“I think there are so many factors of our modern life that are putting us at risk for these subtle nutrient deficiencies. And maybe they are not rickets level deficiencies, but they are subtle and I think they affect our health in ways that are really noticeable.” (9:33)

“If I try this supplement and I do it for 60 days religiously and it doesn’t work, I feel like I can just move on to the next thing instead of sort of always wondering whether or not that was it.” (29:49)

“Chronic stress is connected to like 9 out of 10 of the leading causes of death directly. It is a really serious thing and we can’t ‘magnesium’ our way out of it.” (33:32)

“There’s a lot of research that sort of pseudo-debunks supplements that I think doesn’t really hold up. So just dig a little bit deeper.” (41:17)

This was a great pod cast! My question is how do you find a “good” supplement. What things should you look for? There are so many out there but I have no idea how to choose !

Maybe that would be another good topic for your Pod cast

I agree. It was a very interesting podcast. I am however still in doubt about how to make sure that the supplement I find is a good one. I would really appreciate it if you Dr. Mariza would speak about that in one of your podcasts. Thank you for the work that you do.
