What’s Going On With Perimenopause?

Menopause is, in our cultural vocabulary, described as the symptoms of hot flashes and night sweats. But menopause is actually the cessation of your menstrual cycle. You know it’s ceased when it you haven’t had a cycle for a year. Perimenopause is a period that extends for a long time before menopause.

Perimenopause starts at age 35, or starts 10 years before menopause, depending on who you ask. It is the slow decline (sorry to use that word) of your ovaries as a player in your endocrine system. Accompanying that is a slow decline of fertility, that really speeds up in your 40s.

Now that many women are delaying childbirth, many women are being hit with the double whammy of trying to conceive while dealing with perimenopause. Still others are experiencing troubling perimenopause symptoms while raising young children.

Why Your Body Needs to Detox

I am no stranger to detox programs and cleansing.  I typically adhere to a month-long detox two times a year with mini 3-5 day cleanses peppered throughout, depending on how my body feels.   I have even traveled to other countries to participate in liver and colon cleanses.  I typically know when it’s time to start a detox during the year.  The telltale signs will begin to show up: fatigue, weight changes, digestive upset and headaches.  When my body begins to stop feeling energetic and happy, I know it’s time for a reset.  And this is the case for almost all of us.  Oftentimes, we may not even know what it feels like to have a super healthy body; that’s why I strongly recommend giving one a try if it’s a good fit for you.  There was definitely a time in my life when I experienced headaches, fatigue, weight gain and felt crappy, but I didn’t know that a lot of it had to do with toxic build up in my critical organs and body fat.  It took me several years to figure it out.  I am hoping to speed up that learning process for you.
