I am no stranger to detox programs and cleansing. I typically adhere to a month-long detox two times a year with mini 3-5 day cleanses peppered throughout, depending on how my body feels. I have even traveled to other countries to participate in liver and colon cleanses. I typically know when it’s time to start a detox during the year. The telltale signs will begin to show up: fatigue, weight changes, digestive upset and headaches. When my body begins to stop feeling energetic and happy, I know it’s time for a reset. And this is the case for almost all of us. Oftentimes, we may not even know what it feels like to have a super healthy body; that’s why I strongly recommend giving one a try if it’s a good fit for you. There was definitely a time in my life when I experienced headaches, fatigue, weight gain and felt crappy, but I didn’t know that a lot of it had to do with toxic build up in my critical organs and body fat. It took me several years to figure it out. I am hoping to speed up that learning process for you.
Through a lot of research and experiences I’ve learned a lot about detoxifying the body. I have had the opportunity to coach thousands of people through month-long detox programs. I truly believe that it’s very important for each of us to reduce our toxic load, especially in our modern, toxic world. In this first blog in a series of two, I want to dive deep and talk about the WHY behind detoxification and toxins, so that you get a better understanding of the importance. You may even decide to try a detox yourself sometime this year. I will share some great recommendations in this blog series to steer you on the right path.
The practice of detoxification has been around for many centuries. Fasting was recommended by Hippocrates as a way to improve health and rid the body of toxins. Many religious groups still use fasting as a way to purify the body and spirit.
