Oil Pulling is the Best-Kept Detox Secret

Oil Pulling-01

Oil pulling, also known as gundusha or kavala, has been around for thousands of years and was originally part of the Ayurvedic healing system. This holistic medical system is one of the oldest in the world, and espouses developing a delicate balance between spirit, mind and body.

Whereas many of today’s medical practitioners only treat the symptoms, Ayurvedic medicine treats the whole person to put every system into alignment. This concept promotes healing from the inside out. The thinking is that once every system is in alignment, the body has the unique ability to heal itself.

Even though oil pulling has been used in India for centuries, it’s only recently gaining popularity in the United States. Oil pulling works by literally cleaning and detoxifying your mouth in a way that toothpaste and mouthwash can’t. It’s one of the best ways to promote healthy teeth and gums and prevent tooth decay! Other benefits include:

  • Eliminates bad breath
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Moisturizes dry, cracked lips
  • Soothes a dry throat
  • Whitens teeth
  • Soothes irritated and bleeding gums
  • Decreases tooth decay
  • Boosts immune system
  • Reduces acne

How to Perform Oil Pulling

Coconut Oil Begin by choosing a good oil for the technique. I recommend using coconut oil because it offers many unique therapeutic properties, including balancing hormones, reducing cellulite, and improving digestion. Coconut oil also contains easily digestible, fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E and K.

While the act of oil pulling takes some getting used to, it’s actually quite simple to do. Use one tablespoon of oil and swish it around in your mouth for twenty minutes daily. Many people trying oil pulling for the first time don’t like the sensation of oil in their mouth at first. It may take several days to get comfortable with the process, so don’t give up!

Oil pulling is best performed first thing in the morning, or anytime on an empty stomach. Pull the oil through your teeth and swish it back and forth from side to side. You don’t need to do this vigorously, but you should be consistently moving the oil around your mouth. As you do this, the oil removes toxins and debris from between your teeth, gums, and oral tissue. Be careful not swallow any of the oil. After just a few minutes, the oil will begin to pick up various toxins, and you don’t want those in your stomach.

After swishing the oil around in your mouth for twenty minutes, spit it out. Next, rinse your mouth well with warm salt water. Once all the oil has been rinsed out, it’s okay to brush your teeth. Perform oil pulling daily for two weeks and then take a break for several weeks before resuming.

Add doTERRA Essential Oils

Adding doTERRA essential oils to your coconut oil is a great way to give your oil pulling benefits an even bigger boost! Essential oils are easily absorbed by the tissues in your mouth, making it easy to get the extra health benefits essential oils offer. Simply combine few drops of doTERRA Lemon, Frankincense, and Clove oils with your coconut oil before you begin pulling.

Healthy Smile What It Does

Not only does oil pulling increases oral health, but surprisingly, it also improves your overall health. Numerous studies have shown that everyday stress, a poor diet, bad weather, and strained relationships can lead to an unhealthy balance in your body, which can open the door to sickness and disease. Oil pulling helps remove some of these toxins and restore balance.

Experiment

Try various oils to find the one that works best for you. Olive oil is excellent for this technique, but many people can’t handle its strong taste. Other popular choices include sesame oil, sunflower, and palm oil, but any vegetable oil will work. Within just a few days, you should notice whiter teeth and stronger gums. Within a few weeks, many people report feeling better, less stressed, and improved mood. Oil pulling has even been successfully used to relieve jaw pain for those who suffer from TMJ.
