Episode Summary

I will be the first to admit that histamine intolerance is something that I, and many others, don’t know a lot about. Unfortunately it can create everything from unexplained headaches to anxiety, irregular menstrual cycles or even reactions to certain foods. The symptoms can often come out of left field and make a histamine intolerance difficult to diagnose or even recognize.

This is why I have brought the board-certified doctor of natural medicine, author and histamine expert, Dr. Becky Campbell, onto the show today. After struggling with histamine intolerance herself and struggling to find a doctor that understood what she was going through, Dr. Becky Campbell decided to create a step-by-step guide to help others recognize the symptoms of histamine intolerance and learn how to heal it naturally with food.

Today Dr. Becky Campbell is here to break down everything from what exactly histamine is, to how to figure out if you could be living with histamine intolerance, and ways to support your body and manage your diet to create optimal body functioning.

If you are looking for a guide to learning the ins and outs of histamine intolerance and want to become part of the solution, Dr. Becky Campbell is the girl for you. She is on a mission to continue to spread the word and help people understand this issue.

Quotes

“More and more research that has been done on this, and people are starting to specialize in it, people like me who have actually experienced it and had to figure out for myself what it was, because no doctor knew what it was.” (10:06)

“I had to figure out what it was, research it, learn a lot about it, and then start talking about it to other people so that it is talked about more.” (10:15)

“What I wanted to do with the book was make it so that people could do it on their own, with just the book, or they could work with a practitioner.” (15:40)

“When you think about a bucket, and you think about filling it with stress, nutrient deficiencies, gut issues, different things like that. And then you add in a high histamine food, if that bucket is pretty full with all the other stuff, you’re going to have a really hard time eating high histamine foods. So what we want to do is figure out what is filling our bucket, empty our bucket as best as we can, and then you are able to start eating foods that have higher histamine levels and you can break it down easier and tolerate it better.” (18:32)

“I don’t do baby steps, I think people are more capable than that.” (23:16)

“If you can get your body healthy and you can learn these stress-reducing techniques and all this stuff, you really can tolerate a lot. You change dramatically.” (25:20)
